About us

Background

In 2004, the Institute for National Resources and Environmental Management of the Hong Kong Baptist University was selected by the Croucher Foundation for naming as one of the Croucher Laboratories in celebration of the Foundation's 25th Anniversary. The Institute has thus been re-named: "Croucher Institute for Environmental Sciences" (CIES). The selection was based on the potenial scientific significance of the research conducted in the Institute, potential for patentage or commercially exploitable results, potential benefits to the University and the academic achievement of the research team members. This support is an important indication of the Foundation's commitment to the work of the Institute.

 

Our Mission

CIES is dedicated to help build a better living environment by conducting research to provide information for the sustainable use and maintenance of natural resources, waste treatment, disposal and recycling. In addition, CIES employs integrated approaches to analyse and assess the risk of chemical pollutant exposure to human and environmental health in Hong Kong, the Pearl River Delta and South East Asian Region.
